专业简介
Overview
Speech, hearing and language professionals have the privilege of helping people to communicate with others. Human sciences professionals have a desire to improve people’s quality of life.
This interdisciplinary double degree is ideal for those who wish to develop a substantial skillset in both speech, hearing and general linguistics in preparation for a career in the community and allied health sectors. You’ll learn how human communication works from both technical and sociocultural perspectives, and about the impact of speech, language and hearing disorders on individuals throughout their lifetime. You’ll also develop your knowledge of the science of being human, giving you a unique set of skills with which to enter the growing health sector.
KEY FEATURES
You’ll have access to one of the best equipped research and clinical environments in the world for speech, hearing, language and cognitive science.
The human sciences component will develop your knowledge of the health sector, connecting experiences and information about human services and wellbeing with biology, psychology, linguistics, sociology, education and health.
The linguistics component will develop your understanding of the production and perception of spoken language, such as the way we produce speech sounds using the vocal apparatus; the way the brain (via the ear) responds or fails to respond to different aspects of speech and language; how languages differ in the way they use speech; how language develops in children; the relationship between language and culture; and how computers can be used in speech, hearing and language analysis.
You’ll have the opportunity to gain relevant workplace experience in a professional or community setting that's relevant to community and allied health.
This course is a pathway into our clinical masters courses in speech pathology and audiology.
