The Master of Science (Earth and Environmental Sciences) is designed for recent graduates or mid-career professionals who wish to extend their knowledge within the Earth and Environmental Sciences, in particular, Environmental Science, Geology, Physical Geography and Archaeological Science. The degree will serve as a refresher program for graduates wishing to explore specific combinations of topics in greater detail; a program for professionals already practicing in the Earth and Environmental Sciences who are seeking additional analytical skills, and as a stepping stone for graduates intending to proceed to a higher degree by research. The program is also suitable for graduates from other disciplines seeking complementary knowledge.
Your degree
The degree emphasizes the interconnectedness of the many sub-disciplines within the Earth and Environmental Sciences, and is a flexible program allowing students to specialize in a given area, or undertake a diverse program of study. The program also develops project planning and research skills.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from the Master of Science will be able to:
Describe and synthesize knowledge about recent developments in an area of Science.
Exercise critical thinking and reflection.
Apply research principles and methods pertinent to a Science discipline.
Justify, interpret and communicate methodologies and conclusions.
Investigate, analyse and synthesise information, problems, concepts and theories.
Generate, apply and evaluate methodologies, hypotheses and theories.
Demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills in planning and executing a substantial research-based initiative.

An Honours Bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline at Class II Division 2 or higher or appropriate Master of Philosophy with a strong thesis performance. Special Admission Requirements: All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should: commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including if possible a copy of the abstract of such work; contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focused research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course; and conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 6.0); TOEFL – 88 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 18).

A recognised Bachelors degree of at least three years' duration in a relevant discipline (with at least three third-year level subjects in the discipline). Similar tertiary qualifications with relevant work experience maybe also considered by the relevant Course Coordinator or Head of School.
English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic Overall Score of 6.0, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 5.0, speaking 5.0; TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 79, reading 18, writing 18, listening 16, speaking 16; Cambridge English: CAE and CPE score of 169; PTE Academic overall score of 57 (Reading and Writing 57, Speaking and Listening 50).
