The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is designed for students who want a career in the accounting profession and therefore the learning experience and knowledge areas are focused on the practice of accounting. The course first introduces the fundamental principles of accounting, economics and aspects of the economic system and then proceeds to the study of specific knowledge areas which are vital for accounting professionals. You will develop knowledge and skills to apply accounting principles in the preparation and interpretation of financial statements and, to enable you to research current accounting issues. You will also have an understanding of the differences between accounting principles and taxation law and the tax implications of business activities. Course Learning Outcomes Students graduating from the Master of Professional Accounting will be able to: Integrate technical, theoretical and professional knowledge as it relates to accounting, auditing, finance, economics, information systems and relevant law. Critically apply technical, theoretical and professional knowledge and skills to propose solutions to routine and emerging professional accounting problems. Exercise judgement to propose solutions to professional accounting problems in diverse contexts using social, ethical, economic, regulatory and international perspectives. Communicate professional accounting advice in oral, written and visual forms to relevant stakeholders. Work appropriately with others in order to achieve outputs relevant to professional accounting. Reflect on performance and feedback to identify learning opportunities and self-improvement. Conduct a professionally focussed research project.
