The Master of Philosophy is a specialized research degree for students whose future career will require them to conduct, interpret and apply the findings of research, with a focus on studies in Human Geography and Sustainable Communities. This degree One third of this degree is coursework with the remainder of the program used to conduct a supervised research project. The Master of Philosophy is also a pathway to higher degree research programs such as the Doctor of Education or the Doctor of Philosophy. What you will study You will negotiate a short program of coursework relevant to your topic before conducting an extended research project. The School of Geography and Sustainable Communities has expertise relates to the Anthropocene, Climate Change, Cultural Geography, Economic Geography, Energy Efficiency, Indigenous Geographies, Mobility’s, Natural Hazards, Population Geography, Resource Management, Social Inequalities, Sustainability and Urban Geography. Course Learning Outcomes Students graduating from the Master of Philosophy will be able to: Demonstrate cognitive technical and creative skills in a disciplinary area within social sciences to plan and execute a substantial piece of research that makes a contribution to knowledge Demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and critically reflect on, synthesize and evaluate complex information, problems, concepts, and theories Communicate a coherent and sustained argument, explaining and disseminating research results and conclusions to peers and to the community. Apply advanced knowledge of research, research integrity, ethics and the rights and safety of others, to plan and execute a substantial piece of research with a high level of autonomy, accountability, adaptability and responsibility for personal outputs. Course Structure The degree comprises a coursework component (24cp) and a research component (72cp) as listed below. International candidates are required to complete RESH900 (Fundamentals for HDR Writing) unless waived by the HPS. Candidates are required to successfully complete the coursework component of the MPhil. In the research component candidates prepare their research thesis. 入学要求

为来自中国的学生设计 An Honours Bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline at Class II Division 2 or higher or appropriate Master of Philosophy with a strong thesis performance. Special Admission Requirements: All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should: commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including if possible a copy of the abstract of such work; contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focused research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course; and conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 6.0); TOEFL – 88 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 18). 国际学生入学条件 Honours degree with 2nd class Division 2 or higher, coursework Masters with WAM 60+ or GPA of 2.8 out of 4. Candidates with a Coursework Master’s degree or a 4-year Bachelor Honours degree in the same discipline may be granted up to 24 credit points of advanced standing for the coursework component of the Master of Philosophy. IELTS Academic Overall Score of 6.5, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 6.0, speaking 6.0; TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 88, reading 18, writing 18, listening 18, speaking 18; Cambridge English: CAE and CPE score of 176; PTE Academic overall score of 64 (Minimum communicative skill score of 57).
