The Doctor of Philosophy Integrated is for teachers and educators who wish to extend their expertise in a specialised area and gain a research doctoral qualification. The program will enhance career prospects as a specialist teacher/educator and increase opportunities for employment in leadership, research and advisory roles.
This degree includes eight specialty coursework subjects and a three-year (or part-time equivalent) supervised research project.
What you will study
The Doctor of Philosophy Integrated combines specialty subjects in an educational field with a supervised research project. Specialty fields include Adult and Vocational Education, Educational Leadership, Higher Education, Information and Communication Technology in Education and Training (ICT), Literacy, Special Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Course Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from the Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) will be able to:
Demonstrate expert, specialised cognitive technical and research skills in a discipline within social sciences to independently and systematically generate original knowledge and understanding to make a substantial contribution to the field.
Critically reflect on, synthesise and evaluate a substantial and complex body of knowledge at the frontier of a discipline area in social sciences.
Communicate research findings, explaining and critiquing theoretical propositions, methodologies, results and conclusions to peers and to the community.
Apply detailed knowledge of research, research integrity, ethics and the rights and safety of others, to plan and execute original research in the field of education with intellectual independence and with full autonomy, authoritative judgment, adaptability and responsibility for personal outputs.

An Honours Bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline at Class II Division 2 or higher or appropriate Master of Philosophy with a strong thesis performance. Special Admission Requirements: All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should: commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including if possible a copy of the abstract of such work; contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focused research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course; and conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 6.0); TOEFL – 88 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 18).

Applications must include a Supporting Statement or a detailed research proposal outlining the area of intended future research and reason for wishing to enrol in a research program.
Applicants for the PhD Integrated are encouraged to contact the Head of Postgraduate Studies (HPS) in their discipline area to obtain advice relating to potential research topics and supervisors. The HPS will also provide advice on the style and content needed for their research proposal.
4 year Undergraduate degree with WAM 65+ or GPA 3 out of 4. Coursework Masters with WAM 65+ or GPA 3 out of 4.
