Public Health is the art and science of promoting healthy people, places and policies. Public Health improves the health and quality of life of a population, by working to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote health through scientifically analysing populations and generating solutions to problems.
This degree
This degree will provide you with an understanding of the key issues affecting the health of populations. You will develop skills in obtaining, reviewing and analysing health information; planning and managing a health program or project; and in improving the health of populations.
High achieving students can undertake an Honours year at the conclusion of the degree to further develop and apply their research skills. Professional Recognition Graduates can apply to be a full member of the Public Health Association of Australia.
What you will study
During the UOW Bachelor of Public Health you will learn the basics of the health sector and develop an understanding of the problems involving health, illness, treatment and welfare. There is an emphasis on the scientific basis of public health, together with social policy and communication aspects. The following majors are available:

UOW recognizes secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems, including GCE A levels, International Baccalaureate and SAT, and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a Bachelor degree. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.0; TOEFL - 79, Pearson PTE - 57.

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. In order to succeed in their chosen course, it is assumed they have completed relevant subjects in their senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. This is particularly important for degrees which have a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
IELTS Academic Overall Score of 6.5, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 6.0, speaking 6.0; TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 88, reading 18, writing 18, listening 18, speaking 18; Cambridge English: CAE and CPE score of 176; PTE Academic overall score of 64 (Minimum communicative skill score of 57).
