Nurses play an important role in the healthcare system and are involved in a range of activities that are designed to provide care of people with acute, chronic and complex health conditions. Nurses are integral in the treatment of individuals, families, communities and populations. You will have opportunities to apply theory to practice in modern clinical learning laboratories in a supportive environment, prior to undertaking workplace experience. During the course you will attend 21 weeks of off-campus workplace experience in hospitals, clinics, aged care facilities and health services. This will allow you to be immersed in the practice of nursing where you will care for patients and clients, putting into practice what you have learned in lectures, tutorials, workshops and clinical learning laboratories. Source: QILT What you will study This degree covers four main areas of study and includes: 'Acute care' in nursing; this is caring for people who are experiencing a distinct episode of illness. 'Chronic and aged care' in order to meet the needs of older people we emphasis healthy ageing, as well as chronic and continuing care. 'Community and primary care' working in practices, clinics and in people's homes alongside nurses and other health professionals. 'Mental health' can occur in any setting (hospital or community) with any patient cohort with unique challenges across the life span. Furthermore, this degree includes content from the biological and social sciences, research, leadership and contemporary professional issues. Course Learning Outcomes Students graduating from the Bachelor of Nursing will be able to: Evaluate knowledge, skills and behaviours for the provision of safe and effective quality and culturally appropriate nursing care. Critically evaluate relevant theories and frameworks that inform contemporary nursing. Demonstrate a critical awareness of knowledge, skills and behaviours commensurate with an effective nurse leader, educator and researcher. Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate person-centred and family focussed care, utilising the Roper-Logan-Tierney (2000) model of living/model for nursing.
