Medical and health scientists play an important role working alongside other health professionals within the medical research and clinical health fields in both private industry and hospital settings. Using the scientific bases of human structure, function and health, medical and health scientists are involved in the development of therapies, treatments and health services.
The Bachelor of Medical & Health Sciences is a flexible, rigorous program designed specifically for students who wish to study the scientific basis of human structure, function and health. The qualification provides you with a basis for a wide range of careers or further study in the medical and health sciences, including higher degree research and postgraduate studies in medicine and the allied health professions. As the degree progresses, you will have increasing opportunities to customise your program of study to include a wide range of biomedical and behavioural subjects related to the human body and health. This degree will ensure you are ready for a career as a research scientist, medical scientist, laboratory manager, technical writer or pharmaceutical scientist.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from the Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences will be able to:
Critically review, analyse and synthesise information;
Explain principles and concepts of science that underpin medical science and apply to human health.
Understand how scientific knowledge and skills in the area of medical science and health can be applied in professional practice and/or scholarship.
Apply specific knowledge and skills in a number of specialised areas within medical and health sciences that can include anatomy, chemistry/biochemistry, histology, neuroscience, physiology, pathology and medical research.
Exercise critical thinking and independent problem solving.
Communicate clearly and coherently knowledge and ideas to others.

UOW recognizes secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems, including GCE A levels, International Baccalaureate and SAT, and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a Bachelor degree. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.0; TOEFL - 79, Pearson PTE - 57.

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. In order to succeed in their chosen course, it is assumed they have completed relevant subjects in their senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. This is particularly important for degrees which have a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
IELTS Academic Overall Score of 6.5, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 6.0, speaking 6.0; TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 88, reading 18, writing 18, listening 18, speaking 18; Cambridge English: CAE and CPE score of 176; PTE Academic overall score of 64 (Minimum communicative skill score of 57).
