The global health care (learning and teaching) program aims to advance knowledge and skills for health professions education. It explores the theory and practice of teaching in health professions and encourages you to develop a broad understanding of both learning and teaching. There are two core learning and teaching topics in this specialisation. One focuses on enhancing the learners’ experiences through teaching approaches to engage individual learners in a variety of education settings including university and the workplace. The other focuses on planning learning, and the educator’s role in curriculum design, implementation and assessment of learning in a variety of education settings. You will have the opportunity to reflect on, and explore, the complexities of learning and teaching in health professions. Current best education practice will be explored within professional, organisational and political context of the needs of health profession graduates. The specialisation is conducted in a supportive but self-directed flexible learning environment in which you will be encouraged to explore, question, discuss and debate the challenges you face as an educator on both a micro and macro level. The specialisation aims to facilitate development of specialised knowledge, skills and attributes for application in a range of global nursing environments extend student knowledge in research for practice development Learning outcomes In addition to the Learning Outcomes of the Master of Nursing (Coursework and Specialisation), on completion of this course, students in the Global Health Care specialisation will be able to: Analyse factors that influence policy development from a global perspective Evaluate how policy and political contexts impact on the social determinants of health Critically analyse international health policy and its impact on health systems and population health.
