The Master of Education (Cognitive Psychology and Educational Practice) is professionally-oriented and is intended for people currently employed in the field of education, those who would like to be so employed, and those who have an interest in developing their knowledge and practice, with a focus on understanding and renewing teaching and learning. It is designed to meet the increasing demand for professional education about teaching-learning issues such as motivation, cognition and metacognition.
The program aims to provide students with opportunities, within the field of Cognitive Psychology and Educational Practice, to:
Develop in-depth knowledge about theory, research, practice and policy;
Engage in informed, constructive debate;
Engage in professional reflective practice;
Adhere to ethical research standards and practices;
Design, conduct, report and evaluate research studies, such as case-studies;
Translate knowledge gained from reading, discussion, research and writing into educational practices;
Disseminate knowledge gained from reading, discussion, research and writing to professional colleagues;
Foster interdisciplinary and intercultural partnerships and work collaboratively;
Lead improvements in professional decision making;
Lead the informed construction of educational policy, whether local, national or global;
Develop advanced capabilities for self-regulated learning;
Develop their own personal educational pathways.
Learning outcomes
It is expected that graduates from this specialisation will be able, in the field of Cognitive Psychology and Educational Practice, to:
Critically read, analyse and synthesise current theory and research;
Demonstrate, through writing and discussion, extended knowledge of related areas of contemporary theoretical and applied research;
Relate theories and the findings from research studies to authentic teaching-learning practices;
Critically review research procedures that can be used to address teaching-learning issues;
Design a research proposal for an independent research project, including selection and justification of research methods and design of an educational intervention;
Demonstrate advanced knowledge about research ethics;
Conduct and critically evaluate an independent original research project;
Lead informed debate about research, practice and policy;
Generate recommendations for future research, practice and policy in the field of cognitive psychology and educational practice;
Demonstrate high standards of academic literacy.
Program of Study
To qualify for The Master of Education (Cognitive Psychology and Educational Practice), a student must complete 54 units, including approved credit, with a grade of P or NGP or better.

A reference or statement from the employer will be required. Special requirements apply to the four-year Doctor of Medicine.
