专业简介
The course aims to meet the professional development needs of graduates with an interest in tourism. It draws on both theoretical and practical material and provides the opportunity for students to apply both the principles and the practical aspects of the course in a number of specialisations in tourism.
The course aims to:
provide students with a broad understanding of the role of specialised fields in tourism, both in Australia and worldwide
examine concepts in specialised tourism fields and examine how they reflect the arts, environment, culture and/or heritage of a place
produce graduates who will act ethically as professionals within their specialised field of the tourism industry
provide opportunities to apply both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to specific case studies both on and offshore
provide students with the opportunity for a work integrated learning experience across a range of tourism sectors
develop skills and knowledge which allow students to apply the principles and best practices of their specialised field of tourism
instil management and marketing skills necessary for professional endorsement within the industry.
Learning outcomes
The course is professionally oriented and is intended for people currently employed in tourism, festival or event design and management, those who would like to be so employed and those who have an interest in developing knowledge and skills in one of the areas of specialisation.
Upon graduating, students will be able to:
review and critically analyse current issues and trends in tourism
examine and assess the role of tourism in an international context, and generate sustainable solutions to a range of complex tourism related issues
initiate, develop and implement event, business and/or interpretation plans in a professional manner
communicate theoretical and practice issues in tourism, both verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences
enter the workforce as skilled and knowledgeable festival and event or tourism professional practitioners
undertake their work in an ethical way within the fields of festival and events and/or tourism.

Applicants must have equivalent of a three-year Australian bachelors degree. Some degrees may require work experience to meet the entry requirements. A reference or statement from the employer will be required. Special requirements apply to the four-year Doctor of Medicine. Applicants for the Graduate Diploma in Tourism must normally have completed the Graduate Certificate in Tourism or an equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution.
