The Graduate Certificate in International Development is designed to provide a broad introduction to the theory and practice of international development.
As a stand-alone course it provides a conceptual and practical framework for individuals wishing to take their careers in private sector, public sector or non-government organisations into the international development arena.
As the first step in the Graduate Program in International Development, the graduate certificate provides a basic entry point to more advanced studies up to Masters level.
Learning outcomes
On completing this course students should be able to:
demonstrate a broad understanding of the socio-economic, political and environmental forces that shape developing countries
apply appropriate analytical tools and conceptual frameworks to contemporary development issues
contextualise socio-economic, political and environmental sustainability problems within the broader political and institutional context of development at the local, national and international level.

Applicants must have equivalent of a three-year Australian bachelors degree. Some degrees may require work experience to meet the entry requirements. A reference or statement from the employer will be required. Special requirements apply to the four-year Doctor of Medicine. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic): 7.0 Overall with 7.0 Speaking, 7.0 Writing; 7.0 Reading, 7.0 Listening; TOEFL Paper 600 Overall 5.0 TWE; TOEFL (Internet): 96 Overall with 24 Speaking, 24 Writing, 24 Reading; 24 Listening; Pearson PTE Academic: 65 Overall with 65 Speaking, 65 Writing, 65 Reading; 65 Listening; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) with a grade of C.
