This course is designed for those seeking an accounting qualification while further developing an understanding of business systems. You’ll develop a strong foundation in accounting procedures and practices, as well as valuable skills including critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. You’ll also gain specialist knowledge and skills to perform technical functions in key business disciplines including: economics marketing finance enterprise resource planning systems. You can continue on to the Master of Business (Accounting) in order to gain professional recognition as an accountant. You could also undertake prerequisite research units that lead on to doctoral study. Careers in business and accounting When you graduate, you’ll have valuable and transferable skills for work in a variety of business, finance and accounting roles in Australia and overseas. This course provides a pathway to further study or could lead to a career as a general accountant or assistant accountant. Our graduates gain employment within small, medium and large accounting practices and corporations, the public sector and not-for-profit organisations. Please note that in order to become a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), you must undertake additional studies, such as our Master of Business (Accounting). Course structure To attain the Graduate Diploma in Business (Accounting), students will be required to complete 96 credit points (equivalent to 8 units) consisting of: 48 credit points (equivalent to 4 units) college core units 36 credit points (equivalent to 3 units) professional core units 12 credit points (equivalent to 1 unit) elective units. Please check any pre-requisite requirements prior to enrolling Students planning to continue onto Masters study are advised to take BMO6630 Business Research Methods as their elective unit. Learning outcomes On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Synthesise and critically review knowledge about business systems relevant to accounting practices to make high level, independent technical recommendations. 2. Analyse research findings applicable to accounting processes in business environments. 3. Justify and interpret theoretical concepts and related knowledge to think critically in the resolution of business and more specifically accounting problems in authentic/contemporary accounting settings. 4.
