The suite of postgraduate courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering focuses on a broad spectrum of the electrical engineering field and gives students the option to upgrade their skills in the areas of electrical engineering, where there are significant skills shortages.
Course structure
To qualify for the Graduate Certificate of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic), students must complete four units (50 credit points) as follows:

Career opportunities
Career opportunities may involve working in power systems, system on chip, design of DSP-based systems, in a wide range of industries including telecommunications and automotive (Motorola, Intel, Bosch, etc.) and research operations.
Aims and objectives
On completion of the Graduate Certificate of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) graduates will be able to:
1. Demonstrate specialised knowledge and skills in electrical and electronic engineering that will enhance students’ career prospects and practice
2. Identify and describe issues and trends in electrical and electronic engineering that strengthen and broaden the students’ engineering capabilities to provide solutions to complex problems using critical thinking and independent judgment
3. Describe contemporary and emerging electrical and electronic engineering trends and challenges
4. Demonstrate clear and coherent communication skills to articulate complex knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences
5. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for all personal work outputs.

Other Equivalent Entry: Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration* or Graduate Diploma of Business Administration. Other English Language Requirements accepted: Cambridge English: Advanced Scores: 58 with no less than Borderline in each skill; TOEFL Paper Based: 550 (minimum TWE 5.0); PTE Academic: 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50; CEF (Common European Framework): B2; English for Academic Purposes (Level 5): Overall 70% (all skills 65% or above).

Standard entry
The entry requirements for Graduate Certificate of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) are as follows:
A Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)* (minimum 4 years of full-time study) degree in any of the following cognate fields: Electronic Engineering; Computer Engineering; Communication/Telecommunication Engineering or
A Bachelor of Science (Honours)* (four years of full-time study) in an approved cognate field or
A minimum of a Bachelor qualification plus significant, relevant industry experience** (minimum of three years), that is deemed equivalent to the above Bachelor qualifications or
A qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above
Applicants with a recognised Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree in an approved cognate field may be eligible for advanced standing.
Relevant industry experience: If this includes work experience, documents substantiating work experience need to be provided on company letterhead and clearly detail roles as well as duties and duration of posts held.
English language requirements
Satisfactory completion of one of the following:
Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with a reading band no less than 18 and writing band no less than 20
Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no communicative skills less than 50)
any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency.
