The Master of Health Management (MHM) provides students with the advanced disciplinary knowledge and capacities for undertaking challenging senior managerial roles in health services either in Australia or internationally. The program is designed to develop judgment-ready, critically reflexive practitioners who can improve health service systems and outcomes. The Master of Health Management (Extension) is designed for students extends students' knowledge and skills in health services research. Many of our graduates occupy key positions in health services and universities in Australia and across the globe or undertake a PhD in health management as the first step in developing a career in health services research.
The MHM (Extn) provides students with advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills to undertake health management roles government, community and health service settings in Australia and internationally. The program fosters sophisticated understanding and application across the complex body of multidisciplinary knowledge of health management including financial and economic management, quality and safety improvement programs, leadership and human resource management, strategic planning and change management, and policy and health program design, implementation and evaluation. Graduates are equipped with the specialised skills needed for professional practice in health management across a range of contexts including ministries and departments of health, government and non-government and voluntary organisations, hospitals and health service, primary care and community healthcare services in both public and private sectors. The program is designed to develop judgment-ready, critically reflexive practitioners who can improve health service systems and outcomes.
Program Structure
Students must complete 72 UOC as a standalone program.
1. Compulsory courses - 30 UOC
2. Prescribed elective courses - 18 UOC
3. Extension/Research Project electives - 24 UOC

Applicants are required to have either:
An undergraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management (see list below)* and two years full-time professional or volunteer experience. This may also include equivalent professional experience acquired as part of a degree of 4 or more years duration (e.g. MBBS, MD)
OR
An undergraduate degree plus an honours or postgraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management (see list below)*
(*Examples include, but are not restricted to, medicine, nursing, allied health, health sciences, biomedical sciences, dentistry, social work, sociology, behavioural and social sciences, psychology, marketing, human services, emergency services, environmental health, veterinary science, health administration, business, management, engineering, law, science, mathematics and statistics, economics, policy studies and development studies)
