The Dual award degree Bachelor of Music Bachelor of Media (PR & Advertising) [BMus BMedia(PR&A)] is a five-year program (full-time) that offers intensive pre-professional training in one of four streams: Music Creative Practice, Musicology, Sonic Arts and Music Pedagogy. All streams are supported by a variety of large and small, western and non-western music ensembles as well as extensive opportunities for developing musicianship skills. The Bachelor of Media (PR and Advertising) is designed to provide students with foundational and applied skills, knowledge and capabilities in public relations and advertising. The program aims to develop communication leaders who inspire innovation and change at all levels of society and adhere to the highest ethical standards. The BMedia (PR and Advertising) program is structured to offer a philosophical and cultural foundation in the media studies core, conceptual and practical skills in public relations and advertising, and access to free electives that provide a more general education. Learning Outcomes Music Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, concepts and skills relevant to musicology, composition and performance, or studio teaching Locate, critically reflect on and apply relevant theoretical knowledge to music creative practice, musicology, sonic arts or music pedagogy Apply advanced skills in inner hearing, individual instrumental/vocal performance or composition, and ensemble performance through the study of diverse musical styles, practices or the application of music technologies Demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of teamwork, collaboration and leadership within music practice situations Demonstrate initiative, judgement and the application of scholarly knowledge to musicology or composition, musical performance, and/or studio teaching Demonstrate teamwork, ethical, respectful and collaborative behaviour within diverse music-making contexts Demonstrate high levels of oral, written and discipline-based forms of communication Media (PR and Advertising) Situate public relations and advertising in the context of media studies. Critically analyse and creatively solve problems in the contexts of public relations and advertising. Produce effective public relations and advertising texts for a range of media platforms. Locate, evaluate and use relevant information to develop content relevant to public relations and advertising industries. Show enterprise, initiative and creativity in the practice of public relations and advertising. Apply an appreciation of, and respect for, the cultural diversity of media audiences, media forms and media delivery contexts. Adapt to changes in the audiences, platforms, tools and practices of public relations and advertising. Conduct research as applied to and appropriate for the fields of public relations and advertising. Collaborate effectively across a range of contexts in public relations and advertising professions. Contribute to, and work within, an international community of media professionals. Create, discuss and evaluate public relations and advertising texts. Deploy ethically informed and socially aware practice.
