The Bachelor of Information Technology prepares skilled graduates for an exciting career in a myriad of industries. The course focuses on the development of web-based business information systems. Core units include programming, systems analysis and design, cyber security, database development, networking and communications theory. Students select a major from the following options: user experience; software development; or digital enterprise. University-wide majors are also available. This course also covers issues confronting the IT industry including employer obligations, employee rights, impacts on society, and future directions of the industry. The University offers the 'Women in Technology' program which provides dedicated support for women entering this industry. Throughout the year, social events with networking opportunities are held for female students. The program has a coordinator who acts as an advocate for the students, offering support and advice. Major areas of study Digital Enterprise: Students gain the skills needed to design, develop, implement and manage information systems and a realistic understanding of the roles of information technology in organisations. Software Development: Students develop the skills needed to efficiently develop and maintain high quality software systems and also provides students with the knowledge to participate in and manage software projects. User experience: Gives students the skills needed to effectively and efficiently design and develop multimedia resources and interactive multimedia programs that support a great user experience. Students develop an ability to select and use multimedia resources that facilitate engagement and usability for users. Additional majors: University-wide majors are also available in this course. Unit availabilities are published for each study period and may vary from year to year. Only Digital Enterprise and Software Development majors are available to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth students.
