UCL Dutch has one of the largest Dutch libraries outside of the Low Countries and hosts an annual Writer-in-Residence as well as regular research seminars by visiting lecturers and professors from the Netherlands and Flanders, ensuring close contact between the department and the Dutch-speaking countries. Students have opportunities to work in conjunction with other School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS) departments and across UCL. Research area: Golden Age and Renaissance and modern Dutch and Flemish literature and culture; Comparative literature, gender studies and translation studies; Modern history, culture and society of the Benelux countries; intercultural and transnational studies; Research into the teaching of Dutch as a foreign language and distance education as well as digital humanities. Recent graduates have used their knowledge to work in the fields of research, curatorship, the BBC, the BFI, advertising and the film industry. Research course may also offered on a four-year full-time basis.
