专业简介
This Masters in English Language and Linguistics will equip you with the key linguistic and technical research skills to explore the structure and everyday use of English, past and present, from Anglo-Saxon manuscripts to medieval letters, from speech to semantics, from language experiments to investigating vast text corpora. If you have little or no background in English Linguistics, we have a range of introductory courses which progress to more advanced courses, allowing you to develop theoretical and methodological background for you to carry out your own research study. If you have taken linguistics before, and want to deepen your interests, we offer advanced courses which will allow you to deepen your existing understanding and skills, to carry out your own research project. The programme enables you to study historical and contemporary areas of English Language and Linguistics together.
On completion of this course some students take our programme as a secondment from an ongoing teaching or professional education position held either here or elsewhere in the world. Others continue into employment in language teaching, journalism, or other kinds of industrial or commercial research. The programme is also an excellent foundation to doctoral research either at Glasgow or elsewhere.

Graduates of national quality Chinese universities with a GPA of 3.2 or above or an average score of 80% and above will be considered. Grades in relevant subjects will be accorded greater significance and entry will be entirely at the discretion of the University of Glasgow. We can accept top-up honours degrees with the final year at a UK or other university but we normally require 60% or equivalent (2.1) standard in all courses in the final year of the degree.

Students whose first language is not English need to have IELTS Academic: overall score 7.0; no sub-test lower than 7.0 or equivalent scores in another recognised qualification; TOEFL- iBT: 100 (Reading: 24, Listening: 24, Speaking: 23, Writing: 27).
