This Masters in Bioinformatics (formerly Bioinformatics, Polyomics and Systems Biology) is an exciting and innovative programme that has recently been revamped. Bioinformatics is a discipline at the interface between biology, computing and statistics and is used in organismal biology, molecular biology and biomedicine. This programme focuses on using computers to glean new insights from DNA, RNA and protein sequence data and related data at the molecular level through data storage, mining, analysis and graphical presentation - all of which form a core part of modern biology.
Most of our graduates embark on a University or Institute-based research career path, here in the UK or abroad, using the skills they've acquired on our programme. These skills are now of primary relevance in many areas of modern biology and biomedicine. Many are successful in getting a PhD studentship. Others are employed as a core bioinformatician (now a career path within academia in its own right) or as a research assistant in a research group in basic biological or medical science. A postgraduate degree in bioinformatics is also valued by many employers in the life sciences sector – e.g., computing biology jobs in biotechnology, biosciences, neuroinformatics and the pharma industries.

Graduates of national quality Chinese universities with a GPA of 3.2 or above or an average score of 80% and above will be considered. Grades in relevant subjects will be accorded greater significance and entry will be entirely at the discretion of the University of Glasgow. We can accept top-up honours degrees with the final year at a UK or other university but we normally require 60% or equivalent (2.1) standard in all courses in the final year of the degree.

Students whose first language is not English need International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training) overall score 6.5; no sub-test less than 6.0 or equivalent scores in another recognised qualification; ibTOEFL: 90; no sub-test less than: reading: 20; listening: 19; speaking: 19; and writing: 23.
