The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Sydney Business School may be undertaken within all disciplines, or within a research centre, and in association with one of our dynamic research groups.
The degree requires the satisfactory completion of six coursework units of study and a research thesis of 80,000 words on an approved topic, under the supervision of an academic panel.

To apply for a PhD, you need to demonstrate sufficient prior research experience and capability. In most cases, you will have either: a bachelor's degree with first or upper second class honours or a master's degree performed at a high academic standard, and which includes a substantial component of research; an equivalent qualification that demonstrates research experience, excellence and capability. English Language Requirements: TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing; IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band; TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing.

Undergraduate degree with First or Second class (Division One) Honours in the proposed field of study from an Australian university or equivalent.

Undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in the proposed field of study from an Australian university or equivalent. Masters degree must have at least an 80% average and a research thesis component that comprised 25% of one year of study.
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 20 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 22 in Writing.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.5 in each band
TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 5.0 in Writing
