Tourism plays a major role in the economies of many countries, including New Zealand. Study for your Master's degree in one of the world's leading tourist destinations.
You'll increase your understanding of the complex issues surrounding tourism while developing your tourism management skills and expertise. International recognition
The Master of Tourism Management has been awarded Tourism Education Quality (TedQual) certification by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. This means you can be sure you're receiving quality tourism education and getting the right skills you need to work in the industry.
Master of Tourism Management by coursework and thesis
This 240-point programme will take you five trimesters of full-time study, or around two years. You can do this Master's directly after completing the Bachelor of Tourism Management (or equivalent), or join the programme after you have worked in the industry a while.
You'll take five core 400-level Tourism courses and a further three courses of your choice from relevant subject areas. You'll then complete a one-year thesis on a tourism topic of your choice.
Master of Tourism Management by thesis
If you've already completed a BTM with Honours, or similar degree, you can gain your Master's by going straight into the 120-point one-year thesis course. Develop a topic based around one of the following themes:
Tourist behaviour
Tourism management, strategy and economics
Destination management, planning and development
Tourism futures
Do a PhD
At the end of your Master's you can choose to continue your research and apply to do a PhD.

Applicants must have Bachelor's degree and three years' work experience. English Language Requirements: TOEFL 90 points on the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing, or IELTS overall band of 6.5, no sub-score below 6, or a minimum of two ratings of 5 and two ratings of 4 in the Victoria University English Proficiency Programme test, or Pearson Test of English, with a score of 65 (with a communicative score of not less than 58).

To be accepted by the head of school as capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study
IELTS overall band of 6.5, no sub-score below 6.0; or TOEFL 90 on the internet-based test with at least 20 in writing; or Pearson Test of English: A score of 65 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 58); EPP: minimum final scores of 4,4,5,5.
