On completion of the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 6) programme of study, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:
analyse and evaluate local, national and international tourism operating environments in order to effectively develop and guide strategic business direction in the tourism industry
identify and analyse strategic leadership roles and styles, and the potential impact on change management for a tourism enterprise
develop, analyse and critique tourism business strategic systems and processes that enable the commercial development of a quality visitor experience and contribute to overall sustainable business effectiveness
prepare effective public relations campaigns including multi-media communications for a tourism business development
analyse and propose strategic business models to improve environmental sustainability for a tourism business or tourism business development
develop strategic investment plans for a tourism enterprise
Satisfactory Completion
To satisfactorily complete the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 6) and be awarded this qualification the student must successfully achieve:
A minimum of 120 credits in accordance with the programme schedule for the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 6).
The student will normally be expected to complete the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 6) full-time over 1 year or part-time over 4 years.

Applicants must be high school graduates.

Students are required to complete international qualifications equivalent to New Zealand Year 12. Entry requirements vary from country to country.
Applicants under 20 years
Applicants should be a minimum of 18 years of age and have completed the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) or equivalent.
Applicants over 20 years
Applicants over the age of 20 years at the time of enrolment will be considered where they can demonstrate the ability to succeed in the programme of study. Examples of demonstration of ability to succeed are the provision of evidence of successful completion of the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) or equivalent and/or employment in the tourism or related sector at an entry-level management position or higher for 2 or more years. They may be admitted subject to programme regulations approved by the Head of Faculty in consultation with the Programme Manager as appropriate. Personal commitment and a belief in one’s own ability to succeed are important personal traits and will always be taken into consideration during the selection process.
English Language Requirements
IELTS test - Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5
TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) – Score of 550 (with an essay score 5 TWE)
TOEFL Internet- based test (iBT) – Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)
University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations – FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE, with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.
Pearson Test of English (Academic) – PToE (Academic score of 50)
City and Guilds IESOL – B2 Communicator with a score of 66
