In the recent Research Evaluation Framework (REF 2014) we were rated the best philosophy department in Scotland and 2nd best in the UK, based on volume of world-leading and internationally excellent research. In the most recent (2014) edition of the Philosophical Gourmet Report, an international ranking of postgraduate programmes, we were ranked as one of the top departments worldwide in seven different areas of philosophy. Our research environment was also given the maximum rating of 100% for its suitability for producing world-leading or internationally excellent research. The department has close links with other subject areas within the University, such as psychology, linguistics, informatics, jurisprudence, politics and classics. We are also home to EIDYN, a philosophical research centre that hosts multiple international conferences, workshops and visiting scholars every year.
