An acknowledged leader in international law, Sydney Law School offers a unique program that combines the core areas of international law with diverse specialisations. This degree permits you to study across diverse fields of international and global law spanning public and private international law and transnational and comparative law.
The Sydney Law School is a community of scholars that engage with the broader community throughout Australia and the world. They are committed to both theoretical and applied research, seeing the former as an essential foundation. Their aim is to develop and expand a range of international law research projects which build on the Law School's existing expertise and utilise the experience of other international law specialists to become the leading international law research institution in the Asia Pacific.
Graduate opportunities
The Graduate Diploma in International Law (GradDipIL) is designed for lawyers or non-lawyers who wish to upgrade their qualification(s) for the purposes of career advancement or professional and academic interest.

You may wish to continue to the Master of International Law which requires a further four units of study.

To apply for a PhD, you need to demonstrate sufficient prior research experience and capability. In most cases, you will have either: a bachelor's degree with first or upper second class honours or a master's degree performed at a high academic standard, and which includes a substantial component of research; an equivalent qualification that demonstrates research experience, excellence and capability. English Language Requirements: TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing; IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band; TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing.

Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria. Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in International Law requires a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney; or an equivalent qualification.
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
