One of only a handful of programs of its kind in the world, the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies provides a distinctive qualification in a growing field and can be tailored to your interests.
In addition to a core program of peace and conflict studies units, you can pursue electives from a range of disciplines, including development studies, human rights, political economy, international relations and security studies. From justice and reconciliation after mass violence to the role of religion in war and peace, a broad range of subjects is on offer in this course. Taught by experts in the field, this course will prepare you for both the intellectual and practical challenges of a career in peace building or related fields.

You can progress from the Graduate Certificate to a Graduate Diploma or Masters, or from a Graduate Diploma to Masters in the same subject area, after successful completion of the shorter course.

To apply for a PhD, you need to demonstrate sufficient prior research experience and capability. In most cases, you will have either: a bachelor's degree with first or upper second class honours or a master's degree performed at a high academic standard, and which includes a substantial component of research; an equivalent qualification that demonstrates research experience, excellence and capability. English Language Requirements: TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing; IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band; TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing.

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies requires:
a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, with a major in the humanities or social sciences, or an equivalent qualification; or
relevant, recent professional qualifications and experience may be assessed as suitable for admission by the Dean under the provision for exceptional circumstances outlined in the Coursework Rule.
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the admissions criteria. In exceptional circumstances the Dean may admit applicants without these qualifications but whose evidence of experience and achievement is deemed by the Dean to be equivalent.
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
