The School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) brings together academics from across the disciplines of politics, international development and international relations. Much of our work is highly international in orientation and with over 40 academic staff, our staff expertise covers all the main regions of the world. We provide supervisory support across a wide range of specialisms and cross-cutting contemporary topics. Our research profile is very broad and diverse, with expertise that ranges across globalisation, conflict, new security and terrorism, feminism, institutional analysis, international development, civil society and democratisation, knowledge and power, political theory, nationalism, British politics, the European Union, and more. The exciting, multidisciplinary environment we offer our research students is reflected in an active research culture of seminars, research cluster activities and conferences. We strongly encourage research students to attend conferences, and we have an excellent record of thesis completion. Every student has two supervisors and we have a tradition of close and involved personal supervision, with supervision meetings usually held every month.
