The BDS combines clinical experience with dental science. Our outreach programme is innovative: you'll get valuable experience in dental surgeries and community health centres, not just training clinics. We'll show you how to take a preventive approach to patient care, motivating your patients to look after their oral health. You will also learn about diagnosis and treatment planning. The early part of this dentistry course looks at diseases of the teeth and supporting tissues, their prevention and related clinical procedures. As you progress, you'll develop advanced patient management skills and understand the relationship between different dental disciplines. At the end of the second year, you can take a year out to study for an intercalated BMedSci. This is a chance to take an in-depth look at one of the subjects from your dental course and carry out some research of your own. The final two years of the BDS are about making sure you're ready for professional practice. We will introduce you to more advanced, specialist clinical work. Everything you've learned will start to come together.
