Microorganisms are essential components of natural ecosystems but also play important roles in man-made environments. Microbes mediate elemental cycling, are important in the production of food, but are also responsible for infections and disease in humans, animals and plants. Microbiology research examines how microbes function at a molecular level through to a population level. Research within the School studies geomicrobiology, microbial biotechnology, plant-microbe interactions, microbial evolution, microbial genetics, the role of microorganisms in plant-soil ecology

Students with a bachelor's degree from a recognised good-quality Chinese university, with a minimum overall average grade of 80% or a minimum GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) will be considered. Entry requirements differ between courses. Students must demonstrate proficiency in English language and some MBA programme requires GMAT scores.
