MEng Civil Engineering gives you a broad, well-balanced preparation for professional careers in the built environment sector (including design, construction, local authority and specialist work), as well as other areas such as project management and finance. We aim to instill not just an in-depth knowledge of engineering science, but also a solid base of practical skills, an understanding of design, comprehension of the commercial world and a high level of competence in transferable skills (problem solving, team working, creativity, communications and IT). Your first and second years are essentially common with other civil and structural courses offered by the School. Transfer between courses is therefore possible. Design and the effective communication of technical ideas, suitably backed up with scientific and engineering evidence, is encouraged throughout the course.
