Lead the revolution in life-saving medical technology. The Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Biomedical) develops a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of biomedical engineering. By combining multidisciplinary learning with collaborative projects and industry experience, you will develop the knowledge and experiences to launch your career in this rapidly growing branch of engineering.
As a biomedical engineering student, you will learn from and collaborate with leading researchers across many disciplines. You will learn a combination of electronic, mechanical and materials engineering alongside knowledge in medicine, biology and molecular biology.
The degree covers all aspects of biomedical engineering, and you could contribute to innovative discoveries within the fields of:

biomechanics

orthopaedic engineering
tissue engineering

the computational simulation of biomedical systems.
Majors
All majors below are optional. Best aligned majors include Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Humanitarian Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering. Additional study will be required if you select a major that is not best aligned with this stream. Certain majors may have limited capacity.

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies enjoys strong professional and research links with Australian and global industry, affording unparalleled opportunities for Sydney Engineering graduates. Biomedical engineers are exposed to many fields of study in engineering, medicine and biology. Due to this broad experience biomedical engineers find employment in hospitals, Government bodies, industry or academic areas. Specific areas of employment include:
clinical support specialist
instrumentation engineer
medical device assessor
patent examiner and field service engineer.
Biomedical engineers design and manufacture implantable and external medical devices including orthopaedic, cardiovascular and other electronic and surgical equipment.
Future study options
The faculty provides a link between postgraduate students in the different Engineering and IT disciplines. We offer a welcoming and supportive environment in which to undertake challenging coursework programs and research. Our postgraduate coursework and research is focused on industrial applications supported by strong fundamental research programs run by internationally recognised academics.

Admission this course is on the basis of the following criteria:
a secondary education qualification (including national and international equivalents), or approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses.
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band.
TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
