This course provides an insight into the mechanics of the human body and introduces you to the challenges faced in the design, materials, development and testing of medical implants and other devices. Your first two years will develop your core mechanical engineering skills, following the content of the MEng Mechanical Engineering. In years three and four, you will be taught to apply these concepts for the design of biomedical devices, implants and orthopaedic technology. You will learn to use computational methods to examine their performance. In the third year you will do an individual project, and in the fourth year you will participate in a group design project where you will work with engineering students from different specialisms. You also have the chance to select from a variety of optional modules in your final two years. During your studies you also have the opportunity to go on an industrial work placement.  You can go on placement for one semester, one year or during the summer holidays of your second and third years. The experience can help boost your academic performance and prepare you for your career.
