The programme is a recognised teaching qualification for graduates who would like to teach and/or train, on a full or part time basis, in further or 6th form colleges or within any part of the Learning and Skills sector. You will develop skills in planning, delivering and assessing learning activities, combined with the understanding of the learning process and background to post-compulsory education and training. You will undertake a short research project aimed at improving an aspect of teaching and learning. Methods of assessment are designed in line with the intended learning outcomes and intended skills development for the programme. Teaching and learning on this programme will seek to exemplify good practice. College based and university sessions are intended to be interactive and stimulating, drawing on the academic backgrounds of the students. Modes of learning include lectures, seminars, small group meetings and tutorials, personal tutorials, directed and self-directed study. Video, web-based, case study and fieldwork resources are also used. The trainees will also experience a wide range of opportunities to practice and evaluate their developing skills as teachers within the secure environment of the University – this practice is frequently referred to as micro-teaching.
