Aerodynamic behaviour is a major influence in the design of next-generation aircrafts. Our integrated masters, Aeronautics and Astronautics/Aerodynamics, is a four-year course where you will learn how to predict the aerodynamic behaviour of an aircraft and other vehicles. Students can also take the Industrial Placement Year, providing the opportunity for a year-long placement with an engineering-based organisation. As in the BEng, you will gain a solid foundation in aerospace engineering in areas including aerodynamics, astronautics and propulsion along with a wider appreciation of the economic, legal and environmental issues associated with aircraft operations and aircraft performance. On this integrated masters programme you will focus in the third and fourth years on aerodynamic theory and practice for the design, of vehicles, wings and propulsion systems. The course provides excellent preparation for aerodynamics design and research for both the aerospace and F1 industries. You will learn the technical principles of aerodynamics through practical lab sessions and lectures. We will also develop your understanding of aerothermodynamics and wing aerodynamics and their impact on the design of vehicles, wings and propulsion systems. The first two years will enhance your core understanding of engineering science and computational design tools. You will also attend a practical week-long course in flight testing, where experiments are performed on board a Jetstream aircraft. You will get to carry out a range of individual and group design projects. In your final year, you have the option to select from a range of interdisciplinary modules, including Automobile Systems and Race Car Aerodynamics. You can also take the Industrial Placement Year, which is an additional year-long module that allows you to apply for a placement with an engineering-based organisation. Recent graduates are employed at organisations including: Dyson, European Space Agency, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), Jaguar Land Rover, MERCEDES-AMG Petronas Motorsport, and Rolls-Royce.
