The department offers supervision for MPhil and PhD (both full-time and part-time) in a wide range of disciplines within the area of French Studies. We have specialists in the medieval period, the Renaissance and Early Modern period, as well as a broad range of research expertise in the Modern period, including literary studies, film studies, visual cultural studies, francophone and Post-colonial studies, critical theory and cultural studies, political history and cultural history, sociolinguistics, conversation analysis and translation studies, gender and feminist studies.
