The suite of Design courses at the Loughborough Design School equip students with skills and understanding in the effective development and communication of design ideas, the ergonomics of usability and interaction, product styling, three-dimensional designing, and the production and use of prototypes as a key part of design practice.The User Centred Design course will enable students to develop their understanding and skills in problem solving, design research, evidenced based reasoning, visual communication, three dimensional design, and a range of human-centred methods to aid in the understanding of user desires, needs and capabilities for use in design.Learning and applying design research methods is a key aspect of this programme, with multiple projects that require students to engage in user interactions to establish user requirements, user need and user aspirations. This research is combined with prototyping at multiple stages in the design process allowing products and services to be developed which are truly user centred. Specific skills in design and design research are combined with transferable skills, highly sought after by employers, including team working, presentation skills and professional practice.
