The Sport and Exercise Psychology MSc programme moves beyond the fundamentals of psychological science by focusing on significant areas in the applied contexts of sport and exercise while providing a critical understanding of sport and exercise psychology. The Sport and Exercise Psychology MSc programme is designed and delivered primarily with a view to best prepare students for specific career pathways or academic roles in sport and exercise psychology and sport and exercise science, with a focus on psychology. Sport and Exercise Psychology MSc moves beyond the fundamentals of psychological science by focusing on significant areas in the applied contexts of sport and exercise while providing a critical understanding of sport and exercise psychology. This programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) through “Accreditation through Partnership”. It is designed and delivered primarily with a view to best preparing students for specific career pathways or academic roles in sport and exercise psychology and sport and exercise science, with a focus on psychology. The programme targets significant areas of sport and exercise psychology packaged in the following modules: Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity in Youth, Current Research in Performance Psychology and Management, Psychology of Exercise for Clinical Populations, Mental Health in Sport and Exercise, Professional Practice in Sport Psychology, The Psychology of the Coach-Athlete Relationship and Qualitative and Quantitative Research as well as Research Project. The academic year is split into two semesters. The Research project runs over the summer months. This is a 12-month programme. The mode of delivery of the aforementioned modules is via Lectures, Seminars, Workshops and/or Field Work. The delivery of these modules varies from 1 hour to 3 hours blocks of teaching. Graduates from this course have gone on to careers including: sport and exercise psychologist, sport and exercise scientist, lecturer in sport and exercise psychology, and sport coach or exercise instructor/trainer. Other students have progressed to doctoral research in the field of sport and exercise psychology.
