Autonomous and robotic systems are ever growing in the world around us; from heavy duty industrial robotic arms in production chains, to robot vacuum cleaners or lawn mowers, self-driving cars and drones to space robotics, or any other Mechatronic or autonomous system. There is a strong strategic direction for global industry in Robotics and Automated Systems (RAS) as evidenced by a host of national and international strategy documents and networks. The aim of this new degree programme is to provide a solid foundation in Robotics, Mechatronics and Control disciplines with a primary focus on Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The programme will enable students to understand the fundamental processes and techniques in autonomous systems. The programme will link high quality in-class teaching with advanced hands-on activities, group work and individual projects to provide a complete learning environment.The Wolfson School is perfectly equipped with the experience and expertise to deliver best practise in the field by recently being placed 3rd in the Guardian rankings for Mechanical Engineering and 9th for Electronic and Electrical. Teaching will draw upon knowledge from internationally recognised research areas such as Control Systems Engineering, Intelligent Automation and Systems Engineering to provide content that aligns with current industrial practice.The MEng degree courses are aimed at the most ambitious of students who wish to develop high flying careers within different industrial sectors and to become the future leaders of industry in companies concerned with Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering.The MEng courses are the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. This course of four academic years allows high calibre students to develop their understanding of the role of Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering in the industrial context, over and beyond that of the BEng courses.Our Robotics courses have a common first year – your ‘essential tool kit’. This gives the flexibility to change course at the end of Year 1 or in some cases at the end of Year 2. It also means that students starting on the BEng course can change to the MEng course if their first year performance is sufficiently strong.Years 1 and 2 of the BEng and MEng courses are similar, but from there on, each course develops its own flavour and engineering emphasis and each student can further tailor their course with optional modules to suit personal preferences and aptitudes.In the third and fourth academic years, the MEng courses provide enhanced opportunities to study your chosen specialist subjects in depth. In addition, MEng students follow extra modules in business management and application of management theory, and are offered the chance to study a language.
