Gas plasmas can generate very reactive environments at low temperature, triggering chemical and bio-chemical processes that are hard to initiate by other means. Semiconductor fabrication, large area displays and energy-efficient lighting is examples of technologies that have been enabled by advances in nonthermal plasma physics and engineering. In recent years, the advance of atmospheric-pressure nonthermal plasmas has revolutionized the field of technological plasmas as they eliminate the need for vacuum systems and open the possibility of novel processing of liquids and biological specimens that were not possible in the past. In this project, you will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of academics, researchers and students at the Plasma and Pulsed Power Group, the Centre for Biological Engineering and the Doctoral Training Centre on Gas Plasma Interactions with Organic Liquids, who work closely together to develop novel nonthermal plasma technologies for emerging and rapidly growing applications such as water purification, green chemistry, continuous nanoparticle synthesis, plasma medicineand plasma agriculture.
