One potentially major disruptive technology for construction equipment manufacturers is “smart vehicles” where the vehicles become the decision makers. This removes the need for personnel to be present in dangerous and unpleasant environments and to enhance productivity. Presently, the steps to reach fully autonomous vehicles are uncertain, as too are how they would become deployable and mainstream within the sector. The aim of this project is to develop a concept of an advanced adaptive system that could provide real-time feedback to key stakeholders. This includes a formalised technology development process and a systems design for future vehicles.
