This new taught programme will develop pedagogical skills in a context in which students can draw upon and deepen their existing practical experience as instrumental/vocal teachers. Students will develop theoretical and practical understanding of instrumental teaching, research skills and strategies for reflective practice: skills enhancing employability and capability. Students will participate in seminars and in practical sessions in which they will have the opportunity to teach others and to receive feedback on their teaching skills. They will have regular meetings with the programme leader to discuss their progress and to plan and prepare work for assessment, which will include both written and practical work, with a final submission consisting of either an extended essay or a portfolio of lessons plus commentaries. Students will have opportunities to engage in the many ensemble and performance activities on offer in this vibrant music department.
