The PhD represents a significant and original contribution to the understanding of Psychology. This may be through the discovery of something new, the connection of previously unrelated facts, and/or the development of a new theory, taking into account all previously published work on the subject. All PhD students are expected to attend the Graduate Programme in Cognitive and Brain Sciences during their first year. In addition they are expected to develop their research skills by attending a number of optional statistics and methods courses which are recorded in a student progress log book. Students are required to submit a 60,000 word thesis no later than the end of their 4th year.
