The British Antarctic Survey is one of the world's leading environmental research centres and is responsible for the UK's national scientific activities in Antarctica. We are part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and provide a national capability for Antarctic science and logistics, carry out cutting edge scientific research, long term observations and surveys that cannot be done by anyone else in the UK. Our eight Polar Science for Planet Earth teams consist of “Atmosphere, Ice and Climate”, “Biodiversity, Evolution and Adaptation”, “Ecosystems”, “Geology and Geophysics”, “Ice Dynamics and Palaeoclimate”, “Palaeo Environments, Ice Sheets and Climate Change”, “Polar Oceans”, “Space Weather and Atmosphere”, covering a broad spectrum of science. We welcome research enquiries from those working for first degrees in earth science subjects, physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and related subjects. Most research studentships lead to the PhD degree. All research students registered at British Antarctic Survey have a BAS supervisor and a University supervisor in a cognate department; progression and examination requirements are as for research students in the partner department.
