The course is about training students to become effective, enthusiastic and reflective practitioners of Religious Education. The primary emphasis is on promoting a clear understanding of what is meant by excellent Religious Education, and to develop trainees' skills in applying these characteristics to classroom teaching. The university sessions include an introduction to: Discovering effective RE, The context of RE, Effective lesson planning, Resourcing RE, Assessment and attainment, Inclusive RE, Literacy and RE, Thinking skills and RE, Creative RE, KS3 RE, KS4 RE, Post 16 RE, Holocaust Education and RE, Multisensory RE, Visiting places of worship. These are taught through tutor-led sessions, trainees’ presentations, workshops, group sessions, guest speakers, discussions, written tasks and assignments, extensive background reading, visits to places of worship locally and further afield. The fullest use is made of the facilities available in the RE resource centre which is located on site.
