The BSc Mathematics for Finance degree course gives students the opportunity to focus on Mathematics for Finance in addition to the general range of mathematical material that you will cover. The course gives you the chance to explore and understand the number theory that Pythagoras studied, the Financial Mathematics that the highest flyers on Wall Street rely on, and a wealth of other topics reflecting the teaching team’s research expertise in probability, analysis, nonlinear partial differential equations, non commutative geometry and algebraic topology. This programme will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation, awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, when it is followed by subsequent training and experience in employment to obtain equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught master’s degrees. You will be assessed through a combination of unseen written examinations, set assignments, presentations and a dissertation. On completion of this course some of our students have been employed by AXA, BA, Deutsche Bank, Shell Research, Health Authorities and Local Government. Teaching is another area where maths graduates will find plenty of career opportunities. There is also the option to study further for a higher degree.
