The School of Management has a thriving community of doctoral students and provides a supportive and friendly environment in which to pursue PhD studies in finance research. Our PhD student community is drawn from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, bringing a wide range of research interests and personal and professional experiences – enhancing the learning experiences of the whole student community. The Hawkes Centre for Empirical Finance - our research centre providing evidence-based economic policy advice for the Welsh, UK & EU labour markets. Our finance research includes a range of exciting projects, These include: the application of Hawkes processes to analyse a range of issues in finance including asset pricing and the calculation of insurance premiums; exploration of housing market dynamics within the UK; the modelling and analysis of financial market volatility and risk using high-frequency international data; the analysis and extension of conventional quantitative tools and techniques in response to the volatility exhibited by financial series.
