Course objectives
In completing the coursework units of the Master of Planning, you will:
Acquire advanced knowledge required by planning professionals;
Acquire advanced technical and communication skills required by planning professionals;
Develop capacity in reviewing, analysing, synthesising, evaluating and applying knowledge;
Develop capacity in identifying and assessing potential solutions to complex planning problems;
Develop capacity to participate effectively in employment or further study in the field of planning at local, state, national or international levels;
Show initiative and judgement in professional practice and scholarship;
Develop an understanding of environmental and social responsibility, justice and cultural diversity;
Develop capacity in communicating clear and coherent expositions of knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences; and
Develop capacity to take responsibility and accountability for their own learning and practice, in collaboration with others.
In completing the research component of the Master of Planning, you will:
Develop skills in identifying, acquiring and analysing diverse resources that include published material, websites, databases and other media;
Obtain practical research training by designing and undertaking a specialized project;
Develop written skills to a level appropriate for preparation of professional reports, and in the case of the research thesis, preparation of a paper suitable for submission to a refereed journal
Develop oral communication skills to a level appropriate for the delivery of a presentation at a national conference; and
Be prepared for professional working careers, and in the case of the research thesis, higher degrees by research.
The course also addresses a set of competency outcomes specified by the accrediting body (Planning Institute of Australia).

PhDs normally require the equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree with upper second class Honours or higher. English language requirements: IELTS of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language) - 92 (26 in writing and speaking, and 20 for reading and listening); PTE Academic 58 (58 for writing and speaking with no other score lower than 50); UTAS Access Level 7 English Language Training - 65 (65 for writing and 65 for speaking and no other test score less than 60); CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) - B (Equivalent to the Council of Europe level (CEFR) of C1 or above).
国际学生入学条件
For admission to this course, you must hold a Bachelor Degree in any discipline at the University of Tasmania, or hold a degree or other tertiary qualifications that is deemed by the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology to be equivalent for this purpose.
International applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is NOT the official language, will also need to provide evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test. The Master of Planning requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0.
