Introduction The MTh in Theological Ethics introduces students to the rich tradition of Christian moral thought with the aim of understanding and contributing to contemporary ethical debates in Church and society. Courses will familiarise students with the work of a select number of master practitioners – such as Augustine, Luther, Barth, Bonhoeffer, O’Donovan and Hauerwas. Our emphasis on the in-depth study of major theologians is intended to increase analytic rigour and depth when entering into contemporary debates. The School of Divinity at the University of Aberdeen has particular strengths in theological ethics. There are full-time university post-holders (Brian Brock and Mike Mawson) and one part-time Professor (Stanley Hauerwas) who share a theological-pedagogical vision and approach. Students also benefit from a culture of cooperation with staff and students in Systematic and Practical Theology, as well as sympathetic relationships with a range of other disciplines in the wider university. The Programme is open to students hoping to continue into doctoral work, as well as those whose prior knowledge and experience is in other fields but who have an interest in ethical questions.
