Introduction The Elphinstone Institute was launchd in 1995 to mark the University's quincentenerary. Bishop Elphinstone was the founder of the univversity back in 1495 when Kings College was built. Today the centre specialises in Ethnology and the study of languages, culture and traditions of the North of Scotland, continuing much of what Bishop Elphinstone set out to acheive in the Middle Ages. Members are active in fieldwork with extensive collections hosted by the Institute which include the George Washington Wilson collection, Marischal museum. As a student you can attend joint seminars with the Departments of Social Anthropology, Celtic Education, English, Music, History and the Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies.
