专业简介
This is a specialised Masters degree course in Economic Geology specifically designed for industry and government geologists. It is the nucleus of the postgraduate teaching program at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Ore Deposits (CODES) and forms part of the National Minerals Geoscience Masters Program. The course is usually only offered on a part-time, external basis. Only students that can provide evidence of financial and logistical support, and provide a research proposal will be considered for full-time admission. Students that are considering taking the course on a full-time basis must contact the program co-ordinator, Dr Rob Scott to discuss their plans.
Course objectives
Course objectives are to increase and update the knowledge and skills required by geoscientists for the exploration and exploitation of mineral deposits. These objectives are accomplished through completion of six short courses and an in depth research project OR eight short courses. The courses will cover a spectrum of topics relevant to the exploration mining industries.

This course is for geoscientists who want to increase their knowledge and skills, while gaining a thorough up-date of advances across the spectrum of economic geology.
Professional Recognition
The UTAS program is part of the National Minerals Geoscience Masters program. Units are taught by the University of Tasmania, the University of Western Australian, James Cook University and Curtin University.

PhDs normally require the equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree with upper second class Honours or higher. English language requirements: IELTS of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language) - 92 (26 in writing and speaking, and 20 for reading and listening); PTE Academic 58 (58 for writing and speaking with no other score lower than 50); UTAS Access Level 7 English Language Training - 65 (65 for writing and 65 for speaking and no other test score less than 60); CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) - B (Equivalent to the Council of Europe level (CEFR) of C1 or above).

Bachelor of Science with Honours is the normal entry qualification. However, for students without this qualification the entry requirements will depend on whether the applicants come from a professional industry background.
Applicants from industry without a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree will require the following:
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science (Applied); and
A minimum of two years' experience working as a professional geologist in industry or a government institution.
Most of our postgraduate programs including Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters by coursework degrees have the following English language requirements.

TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; Writing 22)
PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 50

Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
